Learning with the AI tutor

Use the tutor to work through a difficulty, explain an idea, or discuss your approach while you learn.

Updated September 8, 2026 · Availability varies by course, question and plan.

Start with the point where you got stuck

Open the tutor from your learning workspace when it is available. Refer to the lesson or question you are working on and explain what you have tried. A focused question makes it easier to get useful help.

For example: “I used the area formula, but I do not know which length is the height. Can you give me a hint?” You can also ask for a simpler explanation or another way to think about the concept.

Use hints to keep doing the thinking

The tutor is designed to guide your thinking with explanations and prompts. You can ask for one hint at a time, explain your reasoning back, and then attempt the next step yourself.

Keep your question connected to the current task. If the tutor has misunderstood the exercise, correct the context before following its advice.

  1. Describe the task and your attempted approach.
  2. Ask for a hint or explanation.
  3. Try the next step yourself and check your understanding.

Tutor help does not replace submitting an answer

Discussing an answer with the tutor does not submit it for marking. Use the question’s answer controls to receive a recorded result.

Advice in chat and feedback from a completed marking action serve different purposes. Read the grading guide to understand answer checks, written-response marking and feedback on working.

Availability and limits

Tutor features and usage limits depend on your plan and the learning activity. The controls and availability messages in your workspace show what you can use. Check Pricing for plan details.

AI explanations can be mistaken. Check important steps against the lesson and the question, and ask for clarification when something does not make sense. Avoid putting sensitive personal information into a learning conversation.
